Balloon dilation of the Eustachian tube is a procedure used to address issues with the Eustachian tube, which can lead to discomfort in the ear, feelings of pressure, and a reduction in hearing clarity.
With the help of an endoscope and the Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation System, the doctor threads the instrument through the nostrils to the sinus area behind the Eustachian tube. Once the endoscope, featuring a curved, hook-shaped tip, is properly positioned, it’s pushed into the Eustachian tube. A balloon at the tip of the device is inflated with water, expanding the Eustachian tube for a duration of two minutes.
Individuals who have undergone the treatment say they experience improved hearing, their middle ear no longer accumulates fluid, and they no longer feel constant pressure in their ear. They do not feel any discomfort following the procedure and can go back to their jobs the following day.
Balloon dilation of the Eustachian tube is suitable for individuals suffering from ear pain due to pressure, those who struggle to balance ear pressure during air travel, those with a background of radiation to the nasopharynx or head and neck region, and those who have undergone mastoid or middle ear procedures still dealing with frequent ear fluid or unable to equalise ear pressure.
